So, recently I bought myself a brand new ASUS VG248QG gaming monitor (165hz), and there's two things I am not happy about.
First I noticed that I could only make it go up to 120hz, so, I did my research and found out that it was because I needed to connect it with a DPport and not HDMI, but here's where the second problem comes. My laptop only has HDMI. I tought of buying an Adapter with Male DisplayPort and female HDMI so I could connect it via DP.
Now I was wondering if it would solve my HZ problem?
Oh, and another thing, my monitor has been going black screen very often for like 2 seconds, and I wonder if it has anything to do with using a HDMI cable which is 3m long?

Hello!

The monitor is limited to the bandwidth of the HDMI connection version of your laptop.
Please check the specs of your laptop.

Monitor supports 144Hz over Hdmi. Laptop's igpu may be limited to 120Hz though. Or it could be the Hdmi cable. 3m isn't a usual length supplied by monitor manufacturer so im guessing you bought another cable? Poor quality cable can cause blinking and reduced Hz. 3m or longer length isn't an issue if cable is good quality.

As for another cable, if that is the reason for blinking, and if you're happy with 144Hz or 120Hz (if igpu is limited) from Hdmi then this will do. Im using same cable for 4k 120Hz fine. https://www.pccasegear.com/products/52750/cruxtec-hdmi-2-1-certified-8k-with-ethernet-pvc-3m

If your laptop has video capable usbc port then you could use usbc to displayport cable to achieve 165Hz as usbc has same capabilities as DP 1.2. Usbc specs will be listed and described if so in manual / specifications online for your laptop.

Hdmi to DP is possible but limited to 120Hz. https://linustechtips.com/topic/729232-guide-to-display-cables-adapters-v2/
