HDMI to DVI adapter

If my computer has an HDMI port and I have a DVI-D single link cable from my monitor, can I connect with a DVI-D dual link 24+1 female to HDMI male adapter such as http://www.ebay.com/itm/DVI-female-to-HDMI-male-adapter-DVI-D-dual-link-24-1-/180582520887?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item2a0b8e9837

It seems obvious to me this should work, but I thought I should check anyway.

If you wanted to avoid the adapter all together just get an HDMI to DVI cable.

Fair point. I have an DVI to DVI cable, so an adapter seems simpler. It probably doesn't matter. There's likely no meaningful difference between adapter or new cable in quality or price.
