HDMI to DVI-D not working on Samsung monitor

I have a monitor with DVI-D and a laptop with HDMI, so I bought a HDMI-to-DVI cable. When I connected the two, my laptop detected the monitor, however the monitor was plain black. My monitor works fine when using VGA (I did try to change the source). I also tried another laptop but it still didn't work.
I'm assuming the monitor's DVI port is the problem, should I bring my monitor to a repair shop?

Specs:

  • ■ Laptop: Acer Aspire A515 with NVIDIA MX150
    ■ Monitor: Samsung S23A350B

Sadly no. I have found out the problem is actually my monitor and not the cable. I'm trying to update its firmware but so far no luck.

Hey man, i have the same problem with a SAMSUMG SyncMaster SA300, i have 2 monitors one 22'' and another 20'', and both show the same problem. Do you solve your problem?
