hdmi to dvi problems

I just recently installed an asus gtx 960. I have an acer 27 inch monitor that supports dvi and hdmi and a LG 20 inch monitor that supports vga and dvi. The hdmi is going to the Xbox from the Acer as well as the dvi from the Acer to the pc. The LG monitor has dvi going to the pc. I had to use a hdmi to dvi adapter for the LG monitor. The problem I'm having is that windows 7 recognizes that the LG monitor is connected but no display. How can I fix this

Right-click the desktop -> Screen Resolution
Choose "Extend desktop" for the Multiple displays option. Alternatively, you can push the Window key and "P" at the same time, to bring up a quick change menu.

Try that.
