HDMI to my GTX 960 graphic card isnt working

I just finished building my setup today and when i plugged the HDMI cable into my GTX 960 and the monitor, it said cable not detected, so i tried a VGA connecting to my motherboard, the cable was detected however there wasnt any signal

Heres my setup

Intel Core i5 4460
Gigabyte GTX 960 2GB
Asus H81M-D
Kingston DDR3 1600mhz 4GBx2
WD Blue 1TB
Corsair VS550 Power supply
