Hi,

Hope someone can help, I've got a strange issue when using my plasma for playing some games. I've got a Panasonic plasma that I use as a second screen, which loses picture whenever I launch certain games (FIFA 15 being the main culprit). This can be fixed by switching to a different hdmi input, and back again...that fixes it every time. It's a bit annoying though, so if anyone has any ideas on how to fix for good i'd is really appreciate it.

I'm using a GTX 770. Oh, and if it helps I can launch a umber of other titles without this problem occurring.

Hopefully this is the right place to ask, i know it is a bit of a random problem. If you need any more info, let me know.

Cheers all

Jamie

Solution
Some games, when run in fullscreen mode in particular, are intentionally designed to turn off any displays not being used for the game itself in order to be able to use all of the graphics card's resources for the game. This allows you get slightly higher framerates in the game. When you disconnect and reconnect the TV, however, your PC notices the "new" device and turns it on, thus overriding the game's setting that turned it off in the first place. This isn't an error, and is intentionally done by some game developers in order to help their games run smoother; unfortunately, I don't know of any way to disable it except to run in windowed mode, which may or may not work for all games.

Thanks for the reply mate, good to know that its 'normal' behaviour anyway. Surprised i couldn't find more about this during my frantic googling, i'm sure many people must be affected by the same issue.

So would i be right in saying that if i were to have only the tv connected then the issue wouldn't occur? Or perhaps if i were to change my tv to the main screen in control panel?

Thanks again for your help.

Based on what you said i had a little play with control panel, and it turns out that the tv was already set to primary display...shame. Is it me, or does it seem a little counter-intuitive that the gpu would stop video being sent to the tv even though its set as the main display. You'd think it'd be the monitor set to second display that would get that. Could it just be that its because its a tv, or am i trying to simplify it too much?

On a positive note, i have realised that if i win+p and set it to computer only before running the game the issue doesn't arise, so something of a result thanks to you mate! Just a shame i have to do this to get it to work...i'm a big fan of automation so would love to have this happen without any real input.

Thanks again

That's weird for sure; I've never seen the primary display get disabled like that. I'm glad you figured something out though, and you just taught me about the Win+P so thanks :) I hear ya on the automation point though; if I can figure something out when I get home, I'll let you know.

More than happy to give something back mate, the joys of goggling how to use a universal remote on my pc gave me that one! :)

Legend, if you come up with anything drop me a message

Cheers

I get this with games as said above but funny thing is I can reload [re install] the game and if it works and displays 2 things do not set the game setting to something the monitor don't support like resolutions - if so I find the next time I start the game I black screen [mine iva a floating balloon saying ''not supported ''] so be sure any changes are listed as supported game or monitor wise..
also with my hdtv one time I changed it from dot to dot or what ever it was to wide screen like before it was looking fine until I restarted the game and then the same thing [not supported ]
I guess you can change the config file but its just as easy to reload the game and hope its right once more ..
