Question Hdmi to vga adapter works but screen is black

I bought and hdmi to vga adapter for a secondary display (dont know if its active or passive,couldnt find it)and when i connect it my second monitor is just black,windows recognize it i can drag apps and move them to my secondary screen or move my cursor but i can't see what's happening on my second monitor.Is there any way i can fix this without buying another more expensive adapter or a monitor with hdmi slot?

My graphics card is and Gtx 1050 ti oc edition and my old monitor is a samsung syncmaster 723n

First make sure the resolution of this second monitor is set to 1280x1024 60hz. That is the resolution of that monitor.
You may just have a poor performing adapter. No way to know.

AND that is what the control panel is set to?
Without more info on your adapter, not much additional help...

I wouldn't assume the resolution is 1280x1024. You need to verify that. It may be as simple as incorrect resolution. HDMI output may default to 1080p.
The English language pages I could find for that, say it is an active adapter.

I managed to find the resolution through display settings from windows and it seems to be what you said it's supposed to.any ideas?

No. There aren't any "knobs" to mess with. If that monitor doesn't like the signals from that adapter, there really isn't anything you can do. You are using hardware that just isn't compatible.

Unknown on the second adapter.
You can try an older graphics card in addition to your 1050. I don't know if you will have driver conflicts.
There is no guaranteed answer with the graphics card you have.
What motherboard and CPU do you have?

i connected my main monitor (which has and hdmi socket) through vga cable and the adaptor and it doesnt get any signal too.is there any chance that the adaptor has an issue?or could my main monitor also cant read my adaptors signals although its much newer?
