I bought a new monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution (60hz). In the description of the product it said that the package included both HDMI and Displayport cables, but when the package arrived, it had an hdmi cable and a mini display port cable instead (my gpu doesn't have minidisplayport). So I plugged the monitor with the hdmi cable.

I know displayport is better, but would I get any advantages from buying a displayport cable, or should I stick to the hdmi?

Solution
If your HDMI connection allows you to run the screen at the proper resolution (if it's the newer specs it should), don't worry about using that vs DP, you won't see any quality difference.
