HDMI won't connect to monitor

So let me start this off by first saying that I've tested this with two cables and two monitors and have found that it's definitely not a cable or monitor problem. The drivers don't seem to be an issue either unless my system decided to uninstall my GPU drivers randomly while I was playing a game. So anyways, I have a 1080p monitor and a GTX970 and randomly while I was playing civ the screen went to sleep mode. I checked to see if it was still working and it was, I recently got this card from a warranty so I doubt the card is fried especially considering the game I was playing when it happened plus the fans were still running. I've been switching cables and running my computer on a VGA cable until I get this fixed, I can't find any good forums where they solve this either. Any suggestions? Help is appreciated but until then I'll continue my search, please help before Fallout 4.

as you already checked both monitors & cables then it is pointing to your videocard. if you are using the vga side of the videocard with no problem then it is the hdmi side is causing the problem which means a new videocard.
