HDR not working with resolution set to 1920 x 1080

Good evening,

I own a 4K TV capable of HDR, and if I enable it and set the resolution in Windows to 3840 x 2160, HDR works just fine, it gets detected by both Windows and games that support it as well.

However, if I set the resolution to 1920 x 1080 (be it Windows or just the game's resolution), the screen turns black, no matter if the Windows option for HDR and advanced colors is on or off.

So I would like to know if HDR is only supported by 4K x 2K resolutions, or if 1920 x 1080 should normally be working, too.

My specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 Home x64, 1709 Fall Creator's Update (fully up-to-date)
    CPU: Intel i5-6500 @ 3,2GHz Quadcore
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, EVGA SC
    Motherboard: ASRock B150M-HDS
    Memory: 2x8GB Crucial DDR4

TV/Monitor: Hisense H43MEC3050, with HDR support
    HDMI cable: 2.0a/b, 2.0, 1.4a support

Thanks.

As I understand it based on some comments on AVForums, some of the panel maker's versions of HDR only work at native resolution. It's the way they coded the firmware for the application. It sounds like yours is one of them. If there's a way you can turn HDR off in the TV menu and then try your games at 1080p that would tell you for sure.
