HDR On The PC

So, I recently bought a playstation 4pro and an LG27uk650w monitor, which is a 4k HDR10 monitor. I got it to use my ps4 on via HDMI and my PC using the displayport cable that came with the monitor. (I have a gtx1080)


I know that HDR is still a rather new and problematic thing and I know that it is utilized better on console. But for some reason I think HDR looks way better on the playstation than on the PC even when playing the same game on the same monitor, just on PC vs PS4.

HDR doesn't look right and is blueish tinted on PC in the battlefieldl 5 beta whereas on PS4 it looks much more natural like it probably should. Same issue in AC Origins, and Far Cry 5.

Is there a reason why this might be the case? How might I fix it? At first I thought the monitor had issues but I guess it's something to do with my PC vs the playstation?

HDR is still a work in progress on PC. For some time it was completely broken in W10, making the desktop all washed out. Apparently they mostly fixed it, but there's a few lingering issues. It also matters what game you're playing and whether you have an Nvidia or AMD GPU.

Nvidia uses Micorsoft's HDR through W10. AMD chose to bypass it and use their own, but I'm not sure if they still do. The only game I got a first hand glimpse of in HDR was Mass Effect Andromeda when I tried a 4K TV and 1080 Ti. You had to enable HDR in W10, but disable it in the game. It looked great, but unfortunately I couldn't play with it enabled because every time I hit escape, the game would crash.

I was lucky to be able to fully refund the 4K TV, 1080 Ti, and 4 K Blu-ray player I bought. It was the above reasons as well as 1080 TV broadcasts looking like crap on a 4K native display that made me decide to wait until UHD TV broadcasts are prevalent before I get anything 4K.

As for Sony's PS4 Pro 4K, as far as I know, it's only really true 4K as a Blu-ray player. With games it upconverts them. Sony also tends to over saturate colors, which is a matter of personal preference really. Some people hate over saturated colors as it makes a lot of content look too cartoony.
