HDTV as monitor help choosing

I want to choose an hdtv to use as both a computer monitor and a t.v. I'm not sure what to get I've never had an hd tv before let alone have one as a computer monitor. I want to know will I get away with a 1366x768 32" display or do I need to use a 1920x1080. and if I used a 26" set would that be enough viewing area to be easily viewable in a room about 12 feet away from the screen thanks in advance

go with a 1920 x 1080 one, I am using a 1080P right now it, work great.

1. Get a 1080p monitor if you can especially if you intend on watching Blu-Ray movies. otherwise the video quality will not be optimal since the movie's resolution must be shrunk to fit the screen.

2. 26" from 12' away will look small. Generally speaking, the optimal size of the HDTV should be about 40% - 45% of the viewing distance. Therefore, at 12' the HDTV should be about 50" - 58". Of course personal preferences differ from person to person.

I sit about 9' away from my 47" LG 47LH90 HDTV which works out to be about 44% of the viewing distance. Watching video on my 23.6" monitor from 9' away from it make things look very small.

I forgot to mention that 12 feet won't be the norm for viewing distance usuallly i'm about 5 feet away A 26" monitor would that need any apecial considerations from maximum distance to sit close to it
