I am building a computer in a week or two. I have spent my money on the parts and await arrival on each one. I would also like a new screen for the build. I was wondering if there is any disadvantages to using an HDTV? Other than the text being slightly "pixelated" close up due to pixel density, would there be cropping issues when browsing the web, for example. Would the page be only on the middle of the screen and not got it properly?

You may have issues with the display, just change your TV aspect ratio until it aligns properly, I had to do that with my living room HTPC.

TV's typically have horrible input lag, and unplayable with all the processing effects, so if there is a game mode setting on the TV you need to use it.

Other than that, for general gaming a TV can work fine.
It would work just like a monitor, other than pixel density like you said. If theres any issues with the image not scaling properly that can be fixed in the AMD/Nvidia control panel. Though, if it is anything less than 1080p the image will look terrible.
