HDTV Refresh Rate When Connected To PC

I have my HDTV hooked up to my PC for watching movies and playing games that work better with a controller. My question is, what refresh rate do I set my TV? Do I leave it at 60 or switch it to 24 when watching movies as it's closer to the frame rate of movies? Will this actually harm the TV in anyway or produce negative results?
