Any headset I plug into my computer has a noticeable hissing sound coming from the left ear only. It seems to be slightly better if I plug the headsets into the back of my PC instead of the front ports. Its not very noticable while other sound is playing, but while nothing is playing it is very noticeable and annoying. I tried many methods to try and fix it, and I was wondering if buying an external usb sound card would fix the problem? Any other methods to try and fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
I've solved my hissing problem by going to Audio settings in Control Panel (default audio output device properties) and muting all unnecessary inputs such as Microphone (which I don't use), MIDI Synth, Digital-In etc. in the "Levels" tab. I also keep my headset plugged into the back of the computer rather than front panel ports to avoid EMI/RF noise from the motherboard.
