I just got a new PC and when I plug in my two 3.5mm headphone/mic cords into my PC's back panel (motherboard jacks) I get very faint microphone levels (I have to scream to barely hear something). The audio to the headset is fine but the mic seems to be having problems. I have the mic set as default in Windows Sound and have messed with its properties (like Level enhancements) to no avail. Also, with only the headphone cord plugged in, there seems to be less static and popping sounds than with the mic plugged in. The headphone/mic work fine with other devices (Windows 7 laptop, Windows XP PC, PS4). My front panel audio/mic jacks are also behaving the same way.

My specs:
Headphones: Razer Kraken Pro
OS: Windows 8 64-bit
Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z-97 SLI LGA 1150
CPU: i7-4790K
GPU: GTX 980

PS: I am using a audio/mic splitter that connects to my headset, could this be the problem?
