Question Headphones get quiet on max volume when plugged in through monitor?

They work fine when plugged directly into the PC. I assume this is a software problem, and not simply a defect in the monitor. The monitor in question is a Dell S2417DG, the headphones are a Panasonic RP-HT010. Any suggestions? All related drivers seem to be up to date.
