Headphones playback isnt working afterwindows 8 installation

I recently just upgraded from 7 to 8.1, with a clean install. Now my head phones wont work. I've went to settings>Hardware&Sound>Manage audio devices and now it seems my computer is requesting me to jack in from the front panel of my PC for audio...........i cant jack in the front. I really cant understand how the hell windows 8.1 got this confused. Please help me!

Download your Audio drivers from your PC manufacturer's website. Uninstall all Sound Drivers from Device Manager. Run the Audio Driver Installation software, if its older than 8.1 use Compatibility mode, i.e. Rt Click the .exe file and choose 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' then 'Troubleshoot Program' and choose whatever previous version of windows is appropriate. All should be restored to normal...

yeah i'm not tech savvy at all, so i'm going to be blunt. i've tried checking my dxdiag for my sound cards manufacturer. its Hdaudio.sys and i'm pretty sure that's realtek because i had that before the upgrade as my standard and when i try to down load the lastest version after the installwizard launches is this "Cannot the driver that supports this package. I tried to uninstall my other audio driver nvidea and reinstall it and the headset problem persists.

OK, post full details of your PC and I'll look into it...sounds like a desktop, in which case need the Motherboard model number.

Should be Realtek right enough, but Gigabyte only offer Windows 7 drivers, so download from here
http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Driver/mb_driver_audio_realtek_azalia-amd.exe
To install, right click on the .exe file and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility. Then Troubleshoot Program, and choose Windows 7 as the earlier version of Windows

Hmmm. As the link said ***amd.exe I didn't expect a zip! Perhaps Rt click and choose 'Extract All' to see if you can find setup.exe or similar to use Compatibility. What do you see in Device Manager under Sound, Video and Game controllers?
You should also have an entry relating to Audio in your System Tray if the driver loads correctly...

Presume Nvidia relate to your GPU.
Your motherboard has a poor reputation, but mainly when running the FX series of CPUs. Certainly causing problems with your Audio! One option would be to install a sound card, cheaper than buying a new Motherboard!
