Hi,

To explain, I bought DT 990's a long while ago, and of course they don't come with volume control's like I was previously used to.
However it was fine because my current keyboard has volume controls etc on it, but I have started to look into replacing my keyboard for a less key keyboard, thus losing the media controls.

Is there a work around to this? I don't really want to go to windows volume control every time I wish to change volume especially if I am in-game.

Thanks in advance

Solution
FN key setups on keyboards work in games for sure because I have an HP keyboard with them. I do not use it for games because FN is needed for the F keys instead of the media keys(some games use F keys. skyrim needs frequent F5's :) ).

I am almost sure Autohotkey scripts will work in game(like the user who setup Start + Pageup), but I am not sure if ALL programs will listen.

A warning about auto hotkey. Because it is a macro program it may be detected as a cheat by some games. I am not 100% sure however.

I will test auto hotkey quick since I had it to prevent alt tabbing from Guild Wars 2(make alt + tab sent tab only to avoid getting out of the game while holding alt to see things and tab to target.). On that topic I have not played...
I think all keyboards have volume control.

Ones without dedicated buttons simply work by holding down the FUNCTION key first. For example, to raise the volume I hold down my "FN" key and press F11.

Just look at a picture of the keyboard to see if there are volume symbols on an keys.

Entertaining idea.

I have some media center remotes that do this kind of thing. Great to skip songs and mute in a hurry.

Without adding something a program with shortkeys may be best. Some keyboard have built in function(FN) key combinations for volume/mute/ect

A Google results hows some promise with some solutions here. I will personally not buy a keyboard without media keys any more(and that will get hard as time goes on). Come on Wave keyboard, never die(some keys are blank, but its all good.).

I like the idea's here, about both the function(if present) or scripting the volume control, I'm wondering whether that would work inside a game where it may have had that hotkey before hand, I'm not sure whether that would cancel it out? (might sound dumb but I'm just wondering.)

I still like the media center remotes too because you can change songs across the room(the distance is good with them.).

Yeah they sound nice, I will probably look into one then. Don't suppose you know of any decent ones that are available in the EU too?

Well the autohotkey is bust at least in skyrim. I had alt(!) page up(pgup) working in Windows, but not in game. It may still work in other games, but having START as one button many be an issue for some games.

If you are talking about buying media center remotes, Check maybe amazon maybe to see if they have stock. I am using the same one I got for XP Media Center edition. I also see them on ebay. You need the receiver as well so keep that in mind. You do not need the larger IR blaster on, but at least the smaller one.

Alright, thanks.
