Headset earcups pick up sound not the mic?!

Hello all,

I have a very annoying problem, where no matter what headset I plug in my PC it cannot work it out, as with each headset it only picks up sound when I speak into the earcup and the mic does nothing, I have adjusted, poked and moved everything possible and it just doesn't change anything please help guys!

Can you please pass on your full systems specs inclusive of your audio equipment(headset) and your OS? Are you sure you're not using a 3.5mm jack that is banded as so

with a splitter/adapter from your audio output if it has more than 2 bands? Have you also made sure your BIOS is up to date alongside your audio drivers?
