Headset extension leads dont allow mic

recently i ordered an extension lead for my headset, it didnt allow my mic, so i asked about it on here, someone pointed out i need a headphone and mic extender, i ordered one of these, it arrived today and my mic is detected, but it doesnt work, any help?

Is your extension two cables or one? Is your headset two cables or one?

I'm guessing your headset only has one cable for both the mic and headset. This is called a 4 pole 3.5mm.
4 pole is what allows it to carry left, right, mic, and ground at the same time. If you look closely you can see that it has an extra band on the plug than a standard headphone does.

All you should need is a 4 pole extension.

Keep in mind that your computer probably doesn't have 4 pole connectors on every slot. Usually green = audio, pink = mic, and black = 4 pole (both).

You may need a 4 pole splitter if your PC doesn't have a 4 pole connector.

normally they work, using a headphone splitter, the extension lead is one lead that i have plugged into the splitter, and then to my headset

Actually look at the wire, like unplug it and look at it.

it is a 3 pole. damn, it was advertised as a headphone/mic extension lead, 🙁 guess thats a third lead i have to buy

Yeah a second 3 pole is going to be easier to source, gas stations have them. But 4 pole would give you one less wore to deal with.

Is a 3 pole either a mic or headphones ? Or just headphones ? Since I have 2 extension leads could I use the splitter then the extensions so I have 2 extensions in my pc connecting to one headset?

That would work.

3 pole can be either mic or headphones, the PC only knows because of where you plug it in.
