When I plug in my headset's two 3.5mm TRS audio/mic jacks to my new PC, the audio works fine but the mic doesn't record any sound. My motherboard does recognize that there is a mic and headset being connected, and Windows also shows it as the default device, but when I open Sound Recorder or Teamspeak, audio isn't being recorded from my mic. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Also, this headphone/microphone works on 3 different computers and a PS4 so I'm sure there are no problems with that.

Headphones: Razer Kraken Pro
Motherboard: Gigabyte LGA-1150 Z97-SLI
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU: i7-4790K
GPU: MSI GTX 980

One, Windows 8... *sigh* Two! Karsten is right. If you find the device that you are plugging in on the list (Easiest way is to go into recording devices with it plugged in and talk, you will see the one with sound) and click on it so it is highlighted and select "set as default"

Nothing wrong with Windows 8 😛

My microphone is already set as default and its still not working, here is screen shot:

Click on Properties, check the Jack information in the general Tab

Make sure "listen" is not checked in the "Listen" tab

Check the levels in the Levels tab.

What does it say in the "advanced" tab?

Also, as a test, on your back I/O ports, plug the mic in there, see if that gets you to speak into the mic

It could be that the wires or connection to the front ports is damaged or incorrectly plugged.

I checked and the "Listen to this device" is not checked.

I increased the levels for Microphone and Microphone Boost to the max and still got no results with my microphone.

I plugged into the back and now the mic records at very faint levels (like I have to scream loudly in it to be heard). Also, now my headphones have a lot of hiss noise and feedback. I also increased all the levels for the Microphone to the max and that only increased the background noise.

Should I order an analog to USB converter from Amazon and plug that in? Will that maintain sound quality and free me of this silly problem?

Thanks for the replies.
