I have a (House of Marley Exodus harvest headset) that has a 4 pin jack with built-in microphone and in-line button control . Whenever i plug the headset to my phone its works perfectly fine (the mic works / the in-line buttons work) , same thing when i plug it to a laptop with 3.5mm combo jack (headset/mic) , the microphone works perfectly fine except the in-line control doesnt work . But whenever i plug it to my desktop using a splitter (4 pin Female to 2 x 3.5mm) the headset works , except that the mic and the in-line controls doesnt work . i tried buying another splitter , still nothing works , i managed to find a walkaround by inserting the headset's jack slowly to a certain level in the splitter until the microphone starts working . but it seem like whenever i touch a button in the in-line controls the mic stops working , even when i press it back the mic stays non-functioning . therefore i have to unplug the headset's jack and reuse the same method by plugging it slowly to a certain level where the mic starts working properly then i can plug it all the way in . i think the buttons now are the issue , and even if i dont use them , whenever i restart my pc i have to reuse the method by plugging it slowly to a certain level where the mic starts working . so it became frustrating . i did dig up a little deeper and i found a post on the internet thats adressing the buttons and how they work ( https://electronics.stackexchange.com/a/38492) and i think a button adds resistance to the microphone bias voltage, something on the audio input measures it, and depending on what voltage is recorded, an action is performed. and i think that the resistance added to the microphone by pressing the button is the issue , i need further help with this cuz im now stuck . idk what to do (BTW even when i just boot up and dont press any button , the mic doesnt work) thanks in advance :)

EDIT: when i press the volume buttons nothing happens (even after i use the method the mic stays functional) but when i press the middle button (the pause/play button) the mic stops working . when pressed back , the mic does a quick static noise and stays non functional

btw the headset in-line control only work with apple products (iphone/ipad) , for androids only the (pause/play) button works

Left, Right, Ground, and Microphone connection/wire paths are not consistent.

Your image shows a TRRS plug on the headphones.

The splitter image shows two plugs that are both TRS.

Theoretically the splitter/adapter may be splitting/adapting the headphone and microphone connections but that split may be incorrect or simply defective.

Especially if the splitter (or any other involved device) is of low quality.

And - from the link - Apple uses their own standards (CTIA/Apple) and thus the headset in-line control will not fully work with other standards.

The pinouts being used do not fully match and what happens is quite like what you describe in the above post (#4).

and is there any workaround ? splitter ? device ? or anything like an adapter that will get the job done ?

If your headset is made for Apple devices then you will likely need a CTIA to OMTP adapter of some sort.

(Reference the link in Post #2.)

However, that requires knowing what standards are now being used by both the headset and host device(s).

Check the specs for your headset or contact Marley.
