Headset Microphone isnt being detected

So my headset microphone was working fine and then i had to unplug it from my pc because i had to take the pc away, when i come back i plug it back in how it was and the headphones work but the microphone isnt detected by the computer and doesnt work on applications such as steam or skype, ive tried installing different drivers and looking on the internet for help, ive checked device manager and tried changing options there too and nothing has helped.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Headset plug may have been damaged during the unplug....

Do you have access to another headset/microphone to test on your pc?

See if that works.

Likewise test your existing headset/microphone on another computer.

The first step is determining if the problem is with the headset/microphone or the pc.
