Question Headset microphone not working when connected with splitter adapter

My Headset is an HP Omen 800 Gaming headset. It has 2 wires, the mic and the headphones, which go into a splitter adapter to my laptop's combo jack.
For some reason, the headphones work but not the microphone. It used to work before. I tried everything I could on Realtek HD audio manager, tried rolling back drivers, tried checking for disabled devices etc, nothing. I simply can not get it to work.
Another weird thing is, it works if I remove the splitter adapter and connect only my microphone cable. I have tried on my phone, it works perfectly. Please help.

It works perfectly on my phone though.... That's also another thing
And also, this headset is made for pc/laptops, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

You answered your own question, BTW. ;)

Laptop combo jacks lack those steel rings that guide the plug so they tend to wear out faster than what is on a phone. Test another headset with the same TRRS plug and see what happens. Sometimes they can just be finicky over time with certain plugs which is what might be happening, if not the jack is just bad. I suggest getting a USB to 3.5mm dongle instead, you might find that the Mic quality is a little better over the Analog jack and you have more USB ports to wear out over Audio ports.

I get about 2 years of constant plug and play use out of these and they are cheap, this one just hit that year mark a month ago.
