headset not working

Solution
This is ONLY for USB type headsets:
- You need to manually download and install the driver from the manufacturer. When you install it should work, though you might need to configure it to get the best audio.

Now, if you don't have a USB type headset (standard phono plugs), there will be two plugs, either labeled with their function or one green and another pink. The green (audio input) one goes to your computer's headphone jack or green speaker jack. The other goes to the microphone jack. There is never going to be an entry in the device manager, as it already exists for your audio device. If you need to change the microphone settings you can do that by right clicking the audio icon on the taskbar.
