Heat and power question

Kind of a newbe question but here goes :
If I have 2 hard drives connected and disable the 2nd in Bios is it still drawing power and generating heat if I leave it connected? Both the Bios and and CPUID HM monitor do not detect it. I'd like to keep it connected but as I don't need it now I can disconnect if needed. Thanks so much,

I would say no, even though I have no data to back up what I am saying. It would probably be like a lamp that is connected but turned off.
