Currently my cpu is ilding around 55-58 degrees and when I'm playing dark souls it jumps up to 70-75. And I have no idea what the issue is, I've replaced the paste a great many times using nearly every method, I've completely cleaned out my cooler for dust(Literally sat down for an hour doing that) and around my CPU as well. However my temp still sky rockets and manages at an unreasonable temp, my friend says this is normal for this cpu. However it still makes me nervous, is there a better fan that I can use that isn't the stock fan? Also if my CPU gets too hot will my comp shut itself down to prevent damage?

Hey,

don't bother with pictures. Wait until you get and install the new cooler.

If you do run into some problems let us know.

P.S. Don't forget to clean the CPU from the old thermal paste well before applying the new paste and installing the cooler.
This could be an airflow issue in your case.

One way to determine this is try running your computer with the side off and direct a regular room fan to blow air into your case. This gives you an idea of best case scenario for airflow. If that improves your temperatures significantly then you need to look at your case fans and how they are arranged, and how many you have. Also cable management can affect airflow in your case.

Tried that. I maybe saw it drop by one overall during ilde however I was still get a 65 reg during load.

Hello,

your friend is wrong I'm afraid. This particular CPU should not be allowed to run higher than 62 C.

I've had the Black Edition of the same CPU (not sure if yours if the BE or not) and with a slight overclock to 3.6 GHz it never got pass 56-58 C after hours of heavy gaming.

If you are absolutely sure that your CPU cooler is sitting properly and the fan is working well too then you should make sure you haven't accidentally fiddled with the CPU voltages.

You could download and install CPUz http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html and take a screenshot of the reading in the first tab called CPU and post the image here if you want.

http://imgur.com/YnQVd6x Does this help at all? I think I'm using a stock fan for it at the moment, But I kept double checking the position of the fan itself, and used like 10+ methods for applying the paste.

Will that fit in an older HP pavilion case?(Haven't had the time to replace my current)

Hm ... interesting.

We are talking about a different CPU. I guess you've made a typo in the title of your OP. You've got Phenom 9950 BE and I had a Phenom II 955 BE.

Even so the temps are still very high. The voltage looks fine so the only thing I can think of is that there must be something wrong with the stock cooler. Does it get loud when the temps go up? If it does at least it would indicate that the fan is spinning faster and it's speeds have not been restricted by some software.

The cooler suggested above has the following Dimensions (W/H/D) 120 x 80 x 159 mm (4.7 x 3.1 x 6.3 in) so you could check if it will fit in your case.

It does, generally for like 2 seconds before it stabilizes the temp.(Fixing the title btw, still very inept at this) I can take a picture of the stock itself if it helps. Also I'll order the fan this weekend see if it helps at all, if not I'll take it to my friends and grab a new case/Large cooler and see if that fixes anything.
