My Grandma's computer always has the smell of the heatsink for her Athlon XP
2800+ CPU. This computer is four months old, and it still sometimes has
that smell. I know it is usually normal to smell it for the first few days
like I usually would, but it still smells sometimes to this day. The
temperatures are okay, but maybe just a little above average - not enough to
be concerned about or anything. Any clues why it still smells like
heatsink?

Doubt if it's the heatsink that's the smell. Most of the "warm plastic / new
electronic smell" tends to come from the power supply or mainboard. Monitor
internals also do this. My systems are on 24/7, so the smell dissipates
within a week or less. If your grandmother only has hers on an hour or two
every few days or so that could be why.

Heatsinks don´t smell, maybe you left the thermal compound sticker on...

There was not a sticker on the thermal tape. AMD packs their heatsinks two
ways - The sticker or the plastic over the base of the heatsink. Grandma's
was the plastic over the base of the heatsink.

You're supposed to peel the plastic off.

Look, everything has been taken off and it has been installed properly.
I've installed five processors before. (All AMD)

I've installed AMD processors from an 1800+ to a 3000+ Barton.

By the way, this plastic, you can't 'peel' it off. You just take it off.
It is a plastic cover that covers the hole entire bottom of the heatsink.
Then there is a piece of tape that holds the wire that goes to the
motherboard on. You 'peel' that off. That's all there is.

I would investigate the power supply fan. One machine that I fixed
because it was "flaky" had the fan seized. Smelled hot when running.
The owner didn't notice as it was in the basement by the furnace and she
thought that the hot smell was the furnace. (which I would have
investigated as well as the furnace even should not smell hot).

If it smells, maybe it's time to wash it
