My CPU runs under load at about 60c. Earlier today I noticed heat coming from the top exhaust, so I opened up CPUID and read my temps.

I was getting about 100c on my CPU and 95c on the mobo. I quickly turned off the PC and took off the side panel then restarted. I found that my Hyper 212 Evo HSF was not spinning like it did this morning. It was not spinning at all.

Ive had the computer for about 5 months. Is it common for fans to fail like this? How do I replace the fan and where would I order said fam to fit my Hyper 212 Evo HS?

Thanks!

Solution
Either it got stuck on a fat dust bunny or something may have gone intermittent.

Keep an eye on it and the next time it stops, check if it periodically tries to lurch forward. If it does not move, try giving it a light flick to see if that will get it to start. If nothing happens either way, the fan is either missing power, missing PWM input or dead/dying.

Fans rarely die this quickly but manufacturing or material defects are always a possibility.

The 212 needs a standard 120mm fan. There are hundreds of models to choose from online.

All you need to do to remove it is unclip the fan mounts from the HSF, pop the clips off the fan, put them on the new fan and snap the fan back on. Once you know how to do it, it takes only a minute or two to do.

It didn't seem too dusty, but I do have carpet, and it is on the floor (with a plastic mat) I did dust the fans out a bit, so we shall see. Thanks
