The last couple of days I've had trouble with games skipping a ton of frames. I've noticed it most in Fortnite. The framerate says its locked in at 144 and it doesnt really ever waver, even when the frame skips happen. But I'll be turning in game or shooting and the mouse isn't responsive to my turn until maybe a second later, with all the frames in between that seemingly lost.
Nothing has changed in my components at all.
What could this be? How could this be corrected?

i7-8700k (both not overclocked)
16gb RAM (this I moved up to 3000mHz, maybe the problem?)
No temps are out of control at all. Heavy airflow in the case.
