Could drop a RX480 in there, but that cpu will hold you back depending on games played. An RX460 is a decent match and upgrade for a lot less.

I wouldnt worry too much about bottlenecking the gpu, since your psu will be the most limiting factor in your decision.

If I had a $250 budget, I would go for a gtx 1060 6gb. It may bottleneck but since you are already on a budget it doesnt make sense to buy something worse around the same price. Just make sure that your psu is at least 400 w and has 6 pin connectors.

Yeah but a 660ti is pretty weak sauce now...Its not miles faster than a 750ti....so a 460 being much quicker than a 750ti is about right.

A 1060 would work, but there are plenty of games where the FX wont keep up

My phenom is a really old cpu even by 660 ti standards. The fx in question is newer and more powerful. Lots of games do not utilise that much cpu power and if the game is cpu bound, it will be bottlenecked regardless of the gpu so a 1060, if found at $250 will perform better than an rx 480 at the same price. (Just get the 6 gb)

Edit: if your psu is not 80+ rated or is below 400-450 and your total budget is $250, you should totally get an rx 460 + a decent psu. I dont think a 960 is a good idea.

So you think the 1060 is the best? What about the 960 2gb I found it for $130 which is a steal.

The power supply is not in the $250 budget

Plenty of games hammer cpus nowadays. Plenty.

If the game is CPU bound then a better CPU will help
its about balance. I think a 6300 and 1060 is fine for most stuff, but there are a number of games that the cpu won't feed the frames and some of that gpu power will be wasted

80+ ratings don't translate to quality. Not always

It is good for that price but the rx470 and 480 perform significantly better. 1060 is the best performing of all 4 and I would recommend it over 480. But if you need to buy a psu as well, you can go 470. rx460 is worse than the 960 so its not a good idea if you found a new 960 for $130. Anyway these are your options.

I'm brand new to pc gaming. I have only had mine for a week. Right now I play. CSGO, smite, gta v, left for dead. But I plan on getting more diverse and playing other on the next steam sale.

Right well GTA v, Cs go are CPU heavy. Fx6300 and a 1060 will be ok for GTA v, but It wont utilise it fully.

I guess you could go 1060 and upgrade rest of platform later

My crap system gives over 150 fps on highest settings 1080 p in csgo. I also played gta 5 without much problems and it was fluid. Those are not the most demanding games to be honest and if you do not plan on getting higher resolutions than 1080p, you will be absolutely fine for the next couple years with a gtx 1060. It will also be more futureproof if such a thing is possible.
