Question Hello, question about installing a wifi/bluetooth adapter via the PCI slot

Hello,

I'm trying to install a BlueTooth/Wifi adapter into my PCI slot. On the help forums they gave the exact code of the intel unit which I matched and found and ordered
this on ebay.

Intel 8265 8265NGW NGFF M.2 Wifi Card for PC Desktop WiFi Bluetooth with Antenna

It only comes with a "tiny little green card". It's way to small to stick anywhere on the motherboard.

Do I need another kind of adapter or something?

Also how do I attach the ends of the little aerial connectors (internal side) to the tiny little connectors on the card, they don't snap fit or anything, are they supposed to be welded?

What motherboard are you trying to plug it into?

Usually there will be an E-key M.2 slot on boards that are intended to have a WiFi module.

Those connectors kind of just press on, more of a friction fit than a snap. This is how it is normally done in laptops by the way.

If your board doesn't have any available M.2 slots, then what you needed to purchase was a PCIe card.

Editing to add: The only clue on the support forums was an old post written in I assume Martian, quote:

This plugs into a PCIe slot and into the CAC_PIV/BT connector #17 on the MB.
There are other similar modules available with 9 pin cables. They will also work, but pay attention to the position of the missing/blocked pin for keying."

You should have purchased wifi adapter in PCIE form.

Search for pcie wifi adapter.


Also you could get a separate adapter without wifi module included and combine it with your module.

Buying an adapter card , so you can use m.2 cards in an PCI e slot, might be more expensive than a WiFi Card that fits directly into a PCI e Slot . But there is such cards with several slots. You could add another hard Drive ( M.2 SSD ) if you like . They don't cost a lot more, Iirc.

Thanks for your feedback, just from your comments I've got an idea where to Google. I'll try buying a new PCie card and see if that works. If not I'll go with one of those adapters. You've been rally helpful.

I got this recently. The only thing of note is that you will need an onboard USB connector on the motherboard and the antennae is detached from the card. USB connectivity is required for Bluetooth.
