help!!!3870hd 1024 mb and a 3870 hd 512mb running in 8x+8x

so i found that when i put these two cards in my motherboard i lost power and my games would not run anything on high in fact it wanted to run most on low to medium if i was luckky took one card out flipped switch back to 16x and 1 card plays all my games on high do i need a dual x16 2.0 slot motherboard to take full advantage of the two cards?????

its about the motherboard chipsets. most motherboards turn their 16x slots into 8x when 2 cards are used.

x48 doesnt, x58 doesnt and a couple or few amd chipsets.

p35 and p45 both do the 8x thing.
