So my story begins a few days before my 23rd bday. I bought myself a geforce gtx970 for myself, now feeling like Billy badass about to upgrade my rig(My first rig, been the same for about 3 1/2 years). Long story short, being the hardware noob I am my current CPU (AMD Phenom 4-core) couldn't support the powerful card. So I bought myself a new motherboard and CPU (Fx 8350 8 core and MSI 760GM-P23 (FX). When my stuff arrives after a few times playing with the front panel everything's good, except no POST. After 2 days of fiddling with everything and a whole lot of reading on theses forums I decided to take the CPU out. I bent the pins 🙁 feeling like an idiot and thinking I am now 150 dollars down the hole I desperately searched for a way to fix the pins. Low and behold after a few things the pins were back to perfection and the CPU dropped right in place and for the first time the BIOS screen popped up and I heard a few beeps. Over excited with that last second progress last night I finally brought my computer home to play some games. BIOS screen loads up and after a couple minutes of me looking at the boot menu in confusion the VGA freaked out and "No signal". I checked the BIOS beep codes and I had 1 long beep 2 short, which said something wrong with the video output. I threw my old VGA in so I can try and at least get the computer loaded up. I thought because I had windows 7 already installed on my harddrive that I'd be fine, but it just brings me to the boot menu and the only option is the cd/drive, I'm thinking that's okay I still have my ISO for windows so I can just repair it and figure out what is going wrong. The computer says the disc is not a bootable device and I have spent all day trying to figure this out. I put the disc in my roommates laptop and boom it pops right up and windows and everything is right on the disc. I tried doing it by USB and it doesn't give me the option to boot from that either. I tried moving the Sata cable from my HDD around to different slots, I tried using the new Sata cables it came with and no luck. I even tried changing the cable from the PSU to the HDD and nothing. After a lot of reading I was thinking of trying the SystemPrep thing in windows, but I don't see the point in that as it isn't reading my harddrive anyway. I'm all out of plans and I'm really bummed, I dropped a lot of money on all this stuff and it is really disheartening. I'm just looking on some advice of something I missed or am overlooking.
I saw a lot of posts on here similar asking if they changed things in the BIOS and I can't do that, my only option from the screen is to pick a bootable device which is only the disc drive which wont boot from my windows 7 ISO that works fine on my roommates laptop?
TL;DR
I have a new GPU(GTX 970), a new mother board( MSI 760GM-P23 (FX)) and a new CPU (Fx 8350 8 core). Makes it past POST (with old GPU) but HDD is not showing up as a bootable option and the disc drive which is showing up as a bootable device will not read my Windows 7 ISO disc which worked fine in my buddy's laptop.
Rig
PSU= Apevia ATX Warlock 750 watt
RAM= Patriot G2 series 4GB X 2
DVD drive= Sony Optiarc 24x
HDD=WD Blue 750GB harddrive ( yes I know this is too small for my comp it was the kids who help me build my first rig mistake. I have a tb HDD that fits in my comp but I have not transferred my data because I have not needed to yet
Old video card= gtx 560 /// Upgrade= Gtx 970
Old CPU= AMD phenom x4 975 BLK edition 3.60GHz /// Upgrade= Fx 8350 8 core
Old MOBO= ASUS M4A88T-M ///// Upgrade = MSI 760GM-P23 (FX)
I'm not 100% on this but the 1 TB HDD in my comp at home that is not in use is a Barracuda if I remember right. I will be able to tell you for sure when I get back home.
Any help is really appreciated, sorry for the long rant I figured the more you guys know the easier it would be to help. I'm preety good with computers, but hardware is definitely very new concept for me Thanks again for your time.
