A few days ago, I decided to replay Borderlands because I've got some extra time and I'm a bit bored. I launched the game, and every few seconds, the game would freeze. Only the visuals mind you, the audio for some reason still ran. The only way to fix the freezing would be to CTL-ALT-DEL and then press cancel, which took me back to the game, where I secured myself another 3-10 seconds of gameplay before I froze once again. I tried everything I knew to: turned the graphics settings down, reinstalled the game, updated my drivers, rebooted my machine, etc, all to no avail. So eventually, I gave up. Fast forward to an hour ago, and I decided I'm bored and needed something to do, so I pulled up Mass Effect. Three guesses what happened next, whoever said it did the same flipping freezing thing is 100% right. After that (and a lot of expletives), I decided to test out a few of my other games (Fallout 3, Skyrim, Dragon Age: Origins), and all of them did the same thing. Just as a bit of info, all of these games that don't work now DID work no more than 2 years ago on the same machine.
Also here are my computer specs if you need them (sorry if they're not the specific ones you need... never really had to copy/paste my specs anywhere):
