Help between two ram choices

I just bought a FX-8350 cpu and a m5a99fx pro r2.0 that was bundled with 2x4gb 2400mhz ram.

Unfortunately it looks like the cpu/mobo can't handle up to 2400 mhz.

I also have 4x4gb 1600 mhz ram.

When I installed the first 2, the bios set it at 1600 mhz. When i installed the 4 sticks it set it at 1333 mhz.

So the question is: which set to choose? and after which set to choose, should I change the "auto" settings in the bios to a higher speed? (like choosing the first two and forcing it to go to 1833 or something)

I'm new at this so please help!

Yes it can handle up to 2133 Mhz. Go to your BIOS and enter your 2133 Mhz values and put the voltage to the voltage that is specified by the manufacturer. Also you can change your CAS latency to the one that matches the RAM.

What is your exact model of the RAM?

Oh I was reading somewhere else on the forum that the FX-8350 CPU can't go up to 2133Mhz. That true?

Anyway if I can get it up to 2133Mhz that would be great cause I don't think I need 16GB ...right? Can you please tell me the exact settings I need to change to make that work? You mentioned voltage and CAS latency but I'm new at this

It depends on the individual CPU however it's worth a shot, no harm done.
Usually it will result in better performance and you can check with the benchmarks to see if you are getting any noticeable difference. I overclocked my 1600 Mhz to 2133 Mhz and it gave me a more stable fps and it did better on RAM benchmarks. I could have easily went up to 2200 Mhz or something like that but when i benchmarked it there was no difference in performance so i left it there.

Anyways so you put the memory voltage to 1.65 V
Put the RAM speed to 2133 Mhz
And put the latency to this: 11-13-13-31-2N

Can try 2400, go into BIOS and look for DOCP or XMP and enable that then select 2400 or 2133 and give it a try, the mobo will set the DRAM up for you. It may take a slight OC of the CPU for 2400. I used the 8370 (a pre OCed 8350) in an article comparing performance of 32GB sets of 2400 DRAM:

but it will depend on the CPU itself (actually your CPUs MC (memory controller)), and as mentioned will prob require a OC of the CPU
