Hi guys,

I bought a Samsung 1 TB SSD 980 m.2 NVME - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-3-...id+state+drive+ssd+mz-v8v1t0bw+,aps,74&sr=8-1

But I tried EVRYTHING, my pc didn't detect it.

My motherboard's manual states (for Storage):

Intel Z97 Express Chipset.
1 x M.2 Socket 3 with M Key, type 2260/2280 storage devices support (suppers PCIe interface only)

Can someone please advise if this m.2 NVMe ssd I bought can even work with my motherboard?

Thanks

That drive should be compatible with your board and BIOS version.

Does it appear anywhere? In the BIOS?
HI USAFret,

No nothing, I've tried for hours, everything you can imagine. Samsung Magician software doesn't pick it up. I've tried many computer restarts, going into the BIOS, nothing can 'see' the ssd. Tried going into disc management, it doesn't appear there. I'm lost for options. I know that SSD (Samunsg 980 linked above) is relatively new and my motherboard Asus Maximus Ranger VII is quite old now (I had got it in 2014).

It's so stressful. I was hoping to just install the m.2 ssd and be on my way.

I found these forum discussions

Some as suggesting getting a 2.5" Sata SSD. But those only go up to 560/530 MB/s so a bit slow, isn't it? I was hoping for a fast m.2

In a board like that, you will see pretty much NO difference with a SATA III SSD.

What do you use this system for?
Ah I see. I'll probably just to that then. It's too stressful trying to find a compatible m.2, Too much of a headache. I don't know if i should bother ordering the crucial ssd which they claim will definitely work.
