HELP! Brand new PC build, monitor instantly enters power save.

Hey guys. Recently built my first PC and after booting it up noticed that the screen would instantly enter the "power-save" mode and the screen would sleep.
I have not been able to even get to a BIOS screen so I have altered absolutely nothing in regards to software.

Part list:
mobo - MSI b15m mortar microATX
cpu - Intel core i5-7500
ram - 8gb (2x4gb) Kingston HyperX Fury Black
gpu - Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1060 6gb
psu - EVGA nex650g
monitor - Dell e228wfp (dvi + vga connectors)

Other info:

- The monitor has worked fine with other laptops/towers.

- When using VGA connection, will powersave in analogue input. When using DVI connection, will powersave in digital input.

- When booting the system all fans spin and lights work. sometimes the system will spin up, then spin up again.

- "D-ram" mobo warning light illuminates for a few seconds every time the system is powered. regardless if I use one stick of ram or both. I have tried changing their seating arrangement, to no avail.

- All motherboard power cables are connected properly.

- Monitor is not plugged into gpu for now, it is plugged into the mobo.

- The motherboard speaker does not give a "post beep" on startup, the speaker is not faulty and works during other warning beep situations.

- I have booted the system without anything but the cpu, cpu fan, ram and psu. Still does not solve the issue.

I am planning to take the tower to an expert for them to diagnose if I can't get it going in a week or so. If you guys have any tips that could save me some time and hassle, I would much appreciate it.

Most probably the board needs a BIOS update for supporting the Kaby. A local pc shop might help in updating the board's BIOS.

um, the motherboard did come with a driver disk, however my system does not have an optical drive.
would you know the process of updating a boards BIOS without even being able to see what's happening on a monitor. (not that I would be willing to do it myself, I am really new to this stuff)

You'd need a supported CPU for accessing the BIOS and updating it, that's why I've suggested the local pc shop.

Agreed. You are using a B150 mobo with a Kaby Lake CPU, and without the latest BIOS you cannot do so. You need a compatible CPU (6th gen) to flash BIOS to be able to use your CPU. If you don't have one spare, you will have to take the PC to a local PC shop to have them flash the BIOS for you.

If you have the discete GPU plugged you don't get signal from the MB video output, only for the GPU one.
Try to remove the discrete GPU and with the monitor connected to the MB see if you then get signal.
Then try to plug the GPU and then connect the monitor to each one of the GPU video outputs.

Does that mean I would need a 6th gen to update? or did you mean 6th gen or earlier?
Also does that mean that I could borrow a mate's cpu for the sake of a BIOS update, and be able to give it back afterwards. Or is there anything stored on a cpu that would be affected badly by moving it to my PC temporarily?

You can use your mate's cpu just to flash, yes. It has to be 6th gen, earlier generations dont fit on this mobo anyway.

Nothing is stored on cpu, you can do it without any worries.
