Help!! Breakout POT issues. What next??

I just picked up a Breakout machine a couple of days ago, and its
having some problems. The paddle wiggles back and forth. It isn't bad
on the right side of the screen, but the further over you go, the worse
it gets. Once the knob starts to get close to the end of its travel in
both directions the wiggles get smaller. Also the knob turns quite
past where the paddle stops on the
left side. I thought it was probably the potentiometer, but I picked up
one at radio shack, and it didn't help.

Is there anything else besides having a dirty/broken pot that would
cause the paddle to shake??

>From what I recall with mine, the build quality of the pot is
important. I replaced mine with a radio shack part, and although it
was better than the original one (which was essentially unplayable) the
paddle still jumped and jittered here and there.

So how do you determine which pots are good quality and which aren't?
Dunno.. My guess would be that if you look through
"commercial/professional" parts catalogs, you've got a better chance of
getting a quality part than if you go through a place liek radio shack
that caters to the consumer.

Maybe somebody can recommend a make/model that worked well for them?
