I broke a capacitor off of my gf3 ti-200. What are my options? I'm scared to apply much heat to the board via soldering. It almost looks like it was glued on from the bottom of the capacitor. It was a clean 'break'. Can I Super Glue it back on as long as correct contact is made? Thanks in advance

Is it a surface mounted capacitor located near the VGA connector? If so it might be part of the RF filters for the RGB signals and the loss would not be a problem.

Read <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/porotuner/imagequality.html#26sep2000" target="_new">this visual quality mod article</A> to see what I mean.

Losing one of the filter capacitors won't do any harm.

Losing one of the inductors is a different story. You would loose the signal for one of the color channels.

If you lost one of the other capacitors there are vendors that sell small quantities of surface mount components intended for repairs. It's kit of several hundred pieces. Costs about $30. Installation does require soldering. I think the pieces have an adhesive in the middle of the component so it will stay in place while you solder.

I would not just "super glue it back on".

If you knocked off one of those cylindrical capacitors you'll need to replace it with a similar type and value and just solder the leads. You don't need to mount the replacement flush. You can lay it down and using hot glue to hold it down assuming you can find room.

DO NOT USE GLUE, you will need to solder a capacitor back on & remember to use a heatsink (not a CPU one I think a soldering heatsink might be different), that will help protect the card from the heat generated by the soldering Iron

Of course if it is still under warranty, contact your vendor or the card maker... thats a whole lot easier...
