Hi all,

I currently have a setup where I currently plug my HyperX Cloud Alpha Gaming Headset into the headphone/mic jacks on the top of my NZXT H500 ATX Mid Tower Case which is connected somehow to my ASUS PRIME X470-Pro. My goal for this project is to get two nice speakers and a sub-woofer hooked up.

I want to be able to easily switch between the following input sources: my PC, a vinyl record player, and an AUX cord. I also want to be able to switch output between my speakers and my headset. Lastly, I want to get a new headset that is dedicated audio and then get a separate mic. Let me know what your thoughts are!

Thank you!

And how much money would you like to spend on this endeavour? Need at least an idea of a budget. :)

What kind of music? Are you wanting more audiophile, accurate reproduction like for classical or more flavored listening enjoyment?

Thoughts so far....and there are many many MANY ways to do this.

JBL306P MK IIs. $160 each BUT they go on sale a few times a year for about $200 a pair. It may happen around Black Friday if you can wait. Remember this is only 1.

Well rated Polk sub.

An Aune X1S. This is an amazing DAC with a very good headphone amplifier. The DAC measures up there with stuff that's WAY more expensive. You'll use this as a DAC for the speakers and for the headphones. Massdrop will have this for cheaper. It comes and goes but this specific 10th Anniversary Ed may not be available from them again as there's a newer model.

Headphones. The Massdrop x Sennheiser HD58X is hard to beat for the price.

That's under $1000 and leaves some money for cables and such.

How would I switch between all the hardware? I want to be able to flip a switch which toggles the output source from PC to the headphones, the speakers, or an aux cord.

Just want to be able to listen to EDM/Rap and play video games. I also like classic rock and stuff like that and have always wanted to get a record player which is why I want that as well. Is there a speaker that could do all of that?

I kinda went the audiophile route with those recommendations. That's not necessarily where you'd go for EDM and rap. The X1S plugs into your PC via optical or USB and the record player via the L and R inputs. It has outs for the speakers and a good headphone amp. All switching is handled by the device.

Thanks for all the input. It sounds like the X1S is a good call just price for value-wise, but are there any savings to be had without much loss of value given that I'm not really an audiophile?

I'd change everything. Maybe change the speakers to something like this Edifier setup with more of a focus on the subwoofer.

And for headphones the Massdrop x Fostex TR-X00 line are the best audiophile grade bass cannons anywhere near their price. The Purpleheart has ludacrius bass at the expense of recessed mids and is a rap / hip hop / EDM specialist. The Mahogany splits the difference and the Ebony is the most neutral and works with the most music. I own the Mahogany and the Ebony and the Ebony is my favorite headphone. You wouldn't need the X1S with this setup. The speakers have all the connectivity you'd need and the TH-X00s are super easy to drive. Maybe get a cheaper amp/DAC for them.

You could fit the Ebony in with those Edifiers and still be in budget. I concur 100% with this review.

The only downside to that is you might not like rap anymore when you hear how poorly mastered most of it is. lol There's some amazing EDM out there though.

Still room in there for a very good headphone amp/DAC as well.
