Basically trying to build a high performance machine at low cost.

Can I put this together and it work?

I'm researching how to build a PC and as far as I know if you have the MOBO and components with matching sockets they should work. Is it that simple?

I know there are things like Bios that need to be updated but I've personally never done that and am not 100% on what it entails.

Does the northbridge of the MOBO have anything to do with the processor or Video card compatibility?

Everything is compatible, but i would HIGHLY recommend you buy a better mobo, ECS are pretty bad, I've had such a headache with them. Its also likely that you'll have to update the BIOS before you run this cpu, and flashing on ECS boards also gave me a headache, and im pretty experienced.

The northbridge is a logic chip on the mobo and dictates this like cpu compatibility and what types of RAM you can plug in.

As far with matching componets, i they have the same socket, they should work, but some hardware goes very well together and other hardware goes very bad together.

The chipset and the manufacturer of the mobo are not very good, if you give me a price range, i could help you find a better board.

According to your link in the first post, the ECS A960M-M3 if you read the Details - Features: Note: This board supports CPU up to 95W TDP only.

The FX-8320 has a TDP of 125W.

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 is another model that does not support 125W TDP AMD FX CPU's. You might try the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 with •4+1 Phase CPU Power design for AMD high TDP 125W CPU support.
