Hi,
I am trying to build a solid gaming PC around 1,000$ (give or take 100) not including a monitor, mouse or keyboard. I was wondering if this build would be able to run new and upcoming games, and if it would be upgradable in the future. All recommendations would be greatly appreciated. This is my part list so far.
CPU-Intel Core i5-4690k
FAN-CM Hyper 212 EVO
MOBO-
MSI ATX DDR3 2400 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 PC MATE (was choosing between that and Gigabyte GA-Z97M-DS3H-same price on amazon)
GPU-EVGA GeForce GTX970
RAM Crucual Ballistix 8GB
SSD Crucial BX100 250GB
HDD-Seagate 1TB
CASE- Corsair Carbide SPEC-01
PSU-XFX TS 550w Full Wired 80+ Bronze Power Supply instead of Corsair CX600
ODD-Samsung 24x SATA
Monitor (haven't made a decision yet. maybe
BenQ GL2460HM 24-Inch

Solution
KKAW is wrong about the PSU, it is a quality PSU made by seasonic which is probably the best PSU manufacturer.

The 4690k is unnecessary and will perform about equally to a 4460.

I see people a lot who have a build with a 4690k and a beefy cooler and a 120$ overclocking motherbord, thats 60$ extra for the CPU plus 30-90 for a cooler if you actually want a decent overclock and 40-60 more for a motherboard. You have to take more than just the price of the CPU into account.

And trust me you would see alomost no performance gain from a 4690k over a 4460 in gaming, basically identical framerates.

If you want a better CPU get a xeon e3 1231 v3 and a cheap motherboard. You can use the stock cooler as well. But again this will not...

dont get this if you dont plan on getting a 1440p or 144htz monitor 😀 it is pretty overkill for 1080p 60htz

Do you need an OS included?

but yes this will perfor a LOT better than your build as far as gaming but a 970 or 390 is PLENTY for 1080p

Poor PSU choice especially for a gaming build.

Optional but spend a bit more for a more quality motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gah97md3h

The MSI GTX 980 Ti or Zotac GTX 980 Ti Amp! Extreme does better than the EVGA.

the PSU is made by seasonic so it is a quality power supply

That motherboard is 100% fine for a 4460 and there would be almost no advantage to getting the motherboard you selected.

the evga acx 2.0 is 40-50$ cheaper and has an aftermarket cooler. It can also be overclocked to match the other cards.

here is a benchmark of a superclocked acx 2.0. You can basically take the stating acx 2.0 and come very close to this.

First of all, thanks for your speedy responses. Second, if I didn't want to overclock were the ones that KKAW offered worth it? and why would the PSU be a bad choice? And if I were to overclock like you talk about for the videocard, why would i not want the 4460k? And do you have a recommendation for the monitor?

Then I will probably go with your original setup! Thanks for all your help.

I made a few modifications to your original build. Would you mind checking my "finalized" list (will choose the monitor here or one of yours)? And i heard no CPU cooler was necessary-why is this?

the 4690 is basically the exact same thing as a 4460 with a .3ghz overclock, they are physically the same thing though so i don't think it is worth the money for .3ghz.

The ssd is a good option if you don't mind spending the extra money

The spec01 is not as good as the n200 IMO and an s340 would be better at that price point anyways but it does not support a dvd drive. Why do you need a dvd drive?

that PSU is more of a downgrade, they are both manufactured by seasonic and rebranded but the neo eco is cheaper. the neo eco is just a deal right now.

good monitor choice but also consider this for 1440p ultra ips gaming

the CPU comes with a stock cooler from intel.

Okay, haha ill go with what you basically originally had then. If I could go to $1500 (including the monitor) would you make any changes? What are you running? and I didn't mean to put in dvd just cd drive-I have some old games on discs.

I had to remove the ssd to keep it under $1500, i actually changed the monitor to a 1440p 144htz monitor which will be nice with a 980ti as a 980ti will push many games over 100fps at 1440p.

benchmarks overclocked 980ti
