Alright so I'm going to try and follow the "How to ask for new build or upgrade advice thread" but first let me just tell you about what i want to build.

This computer is going to be my everything computer.

Im 20 years old and a keen(if not accomplished) programmer and casual gamer saving up to build my first computer. Many aspects of computing interest me and i would like my computer to be equipped to deal with an array of different situations.

The games i generally play are not to resource intensive (moba's like League of Legends and Dota) however i think if i had a more powerful computer i might get into some of the more resource intensive games and the ability to stream games would be nice too.

My Computer Needs to be able to comfortably :
- Run a variety of IDE's and compilers
- Run virtual machines
- Mess about with 3d graphics like blender (nothing crazy though)
- Handle most games (not necessarily 1 trillion fps on highest settings)
- Convert Audio and Video
- Edit Photos and Videos

Finally i would like to have room to expand and upgrade all my parts as this is only my first build and id like to be able to tweak and upgrade things as and when i need too (i think this is mainly about the motherboard i choose?).

Now for the guide following...

Approximate Purchase Date :
2/3 months time

Budget Range : ~£900

System Usage : Programming/Gaming/Photo Editing/Video Editing/Video Conversion/Audio Conversion/3D Creation/Streaming(maybe)

Monitor : No i already have 2

OS : I have a spare copy of Windows 7 Professional 64bit

Preferred Website For Parts : None

Location : Manchester

Parts Preference:

- I like the look of the Corsair 500R even if it is a bit pricy
- I'd like to go for an Intel CPU
- I'd like maybe a 250gb SSD to boot from and store important programs
- Also a 1TB regular hard-drive for storing files

Overclocking : Not sure but would be nice to have the option

SLI or Crossfire : Not sure but would be nice to have the option

Monitor Resolution : 2X (1920x1080) Monitors

Additional Comments : Quiet or adjustable would be nice

Why am I upgrading : My current computer is cheap and just doesn't cut it

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
well I went just over £11 over which in the grand scheme of things isn't too much maybe do 2 hours overtime or something :) this is what I have put together for you, if you have any questions let me know. just so you know this build is very similar to mine and I am 22 and work as a Junior Developer in the UK so I know from experience it can do everything you want.

Solution

Thanks Hawshot that build looks great. Just a couple of questions. Do you think that its worth buying a cheaper GPU in favour of a more expensive CPU or will the i5 pretty much handle anything i can throw at it ?
Also i noticed the power supply in this build is non-modular does this make a difference ?(the information i have found online suggests not)

the GTX 970 works on ultra settings at 60+ fps on all current games so its not a cheap GPU by any means it performs perfectly for 1080p so there is nothing to worry about with the GPU, and the New i5 can handle anything I know I have one :), also modular power supplies aren't better performing than non-modular they are just a bit tidier and more customisable but there in no performance difference
