Hello,

soon I am going to build a new pc. now I dont need an SSD but i want one as OEM windows cannot be upgraded without wiping the entire drive(clean install). Thing is when windows 8 comes out I dont want to wipe my drive to get it. so can I buy an SSD then and install is onto the SSD and jst boot off there?

Solution
When you install any operating system. There are a couple things you must do.

You must have your SSD plugged in and NO other Hard Drives plugged in. Before you install your Operating System, You must go into your BIOS and change your SATA controllers to AHCI, because it's a necessary driver to make your SSD function and perform better.

Once your Operating System is installed. Make sure your BOOT PRIORITY in the BIOS is your SSD. You can then shut down the computer and plug in the other hard drives (if you have others) and access the files.
