so I won a NZXT Kraken X52 from an event and planning to build a 6500 + h170 build and GTX 1070 with it but my friend told me that I should go with 6600k + Z170 to make full use of the cooler. Is Overclocking worth it?. I've heard that oc'ing doesn't make any difference in gaming, if this is true should i just stick with my own build? I just don't want to regret spending extra cash for nothing. Please help me. sorry for my bad english.

People are experiencing bottlenecks with an i5 6500/1070 combo, so if you can then get the 6600k. Overclocking it will make a slight difference if your CPU is holding back the GPU, but the 6600k/1070 match is a more balanced system even at stock.

it pretty much depends on your monitor.

@1080p yes, the 6600k will make a difference
@1440p not necessarily

however the 6600k is the better CPU and a cooler like that on a 6500 is kind of...big big overkill.
seeing as you already got the cooler, it's really more a matter of if you can afford the extra cash for especially the board.

Thanks man, would you perhaps recommend a good z170 board?, I have little knowledge of it as I was not interested of oc'ing

Oh I see, I wasn't aware that there's bottlenecking with that combo but how about 6500/480 crossfire? I just wanna ask coz right now I have a rx480.

depends on your location
I'd get one of these:
Gigabyte Z170(x): UD3 / Gaming 3 / Gaming K3 / Designare
Asus Z170: -A / Pro Gaming / Pro / Maximus VIII
AsRock Z170: Fatal1ty K4 / K6
MSI Z170: Gaming Pro / Gaming Pro Carbon / Krait Gaming / M5

basically the cheaper ones aren't really anything I'd recommend. yes they'll will work, but if I'm spending 110$ on a crap board or 130$ on a good one....you get what I mean...
the more expensive ones are hardly worth the money, especially when you don't really know much about mainboards and overclocking

my personal sweetspot is usually the Gigabyte Gaming K3 -- when you get it cheap. sometimes this board is ~120 or the UD3 / Asus Pro as they come with great features and quality in their price range.
Many people despise AsRock, but the Fatali1ty K4 got great professional reviews and is a very nice option.

The 480 is just a step below the 1070, and I have to be honest man you may be better off getting another 480 and cross firing them, as unless you want to use a 1440p monitor I am not sure the cost of a new 1070 justfies the performance increase, You will obvioulsy see an increase, but $400 worth? Personally I might think twice.

An Isokolon, PTH is taking the torch from WCD, all is not lost yet ;)

haven't really looked at CF benchmarks. SLI with Pascal is definitely not worth it from the benchmarks I've seen, don't know if CF is better supported.
but I agree that the performance increase is hardly worth it unless you can sell your Rx480 at a really good price

and yeah Multipack, I've heard. But rebuilding this kind of archive & community will take time. and getting an invite is a whole different story....

Can I trust AsRock's durability? , It appears that among those cards its the cheapest here in my country

AsRock is generally considered to not have the same QC standard as ASUS or GIGABYTE (with MSI being a total wildcard)
however their Fatal1ty series is usually pretty good.

any board can be DOA or fail because of some weird issue.

personally I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if you're concerend easily, go with Gigabyte/Asus instead
