hi all. i need some help choosing a monitor to buy. i am a gamer building my first computer. i have about 800 dollars to spend. what kind of monitor ie flat, crt, all kinds. and what one would you reccomend. thanks.

I would recommend a 19in. flat crt monitor, with a refresh rate that can go to 85hz or more and a resolution of 1600x1200. I have the NEC fe991sb-bk. very good gaming montitor, been very happy with it. Good colors, clear picture.

Cripes, 800 bucks for a monitor! Get yourself a beauty. Check out the NEC FP2141SB-BK. It's a 22" Flat CRT. <A HREF="http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?category_id=103&keyword=&mnf=&prst=&prEnd=&sku=A0047417&mnfsku=&SearchType=&Page=productlisting.aspx&spagenum=1&Pageb4Search=&InStock=&items_per_page=25&orderby=&mnfname=&brand=&SubmitSearch=&image_flag=True&refurbished=&c=us&l=en&cs=19&iCompatid=" target="_new">This</A> is a link to it over on Dell's website. They've got it on sale right now for $590USD.

It's capable of 2048x1536@85hz max resolution. Has a .24 dot pitch. It's an aperture grill monitor, so remember that it'll have 2 shadows from the stabilizer wires. If that doesnt bother you, I think this is the best non-professional 21-22" monitor on the market right now.

Get a 21" or 22" monitor if you've got the room. Both have the same visible area. You're going to end up with some serious change if you go with a 19" monitor.
