Question Help choosing a new GPU

So my old Nvidia geforce gtx 760 just died recently and im looking for an upgrade, tho looking around i can't decide at all what i should go for '-'.
First my processor is an i7 intel 4790 @3.6ghz, and i know this is not exceptional so i think i wanna go for the highest GPU that won't get bottlenecked by this CPU.
I found that bottleneck spreadsheet in the mega thread but theres only 8 GPU's there and im not sure how to compare those to others, and i was also looking at the gefore 1660 which is not there either.
Budget is like 300-400USD, not really sure, but i don't think my CPU will be able to handle a 400USD GPU anyway. Other than that, i'm not really sure how to compare any GPU's out there, like 1060vs1070vs1080vs2070 etc., since everything i find online seems more or less like it's trying to sell me all of them instead of actual comparing them clearly.

At which resolution are you playing ? What is your PSU (brand, model, power) ?

That CPU can support some pretty decent GPUs..

As far as the GTX series....I wouldn't go higher than a GTX 1080.

As far as the RTX series I wouldn't go higher than an RTX 2060.

I think it will work well with both the GTX 1080 and RTX 2060.

Just makes sure your power supply has enough power and the proper available plugs for whatever card you decide to go with.

Uhh i was just looking for my PSU box but it seems like i don't have it anymore, oops...
And i tried looking inside but for whatever reason the only label on my PSU states its an EagleForce PSU and no model number or anything... tho if it comes down to that i guess i'll just have to get a new PSU
Also about the resolution my monitor right now is only 1080p (samsung t22c350) but i was looking to upgrade it too if it would hold back a new GPU.

So between GTX 1080 and RTX 2060 which one would you rather recommend? Also what about Ti variants, and what always confused me , manufacturers ...the store im looking at right now has quite a few, MSI/Galax/GIGABYTE/Palit/Gainward, so im not sure which one to choose

The monitor will not hold back the GPU. It just that you may end up paying too much for what you need.
For 1080p, it's not really worth it to spend much money above midrange cards (1660 for nVidia or RX590 for AMD). They're plenty powerful enough to run anything at this resolution. Yes, a GTX 1080 or RTX2060 would also work, but are overkill for 1080p gaming. They're more for 1440p gamers or those wanting to max out a 144hz monitor.

Actually i was thinking of a monitor upgrade too anyway, and keep this one as my second monitor, so a 1080 or 2060 would be cool, though im have no idea where to start looking at monitors either

Get a RTX 2060, not the GTX 1080.
The 1080 is an old gpu that's already getting neglected in driver optimizations.
It can't handle new APIs such as DX12 and Vulkan like the 2060 can, and will fall behind it's current Turing and Vega competitors in new games.

Ok so all in all, if i want to go for a new 1440p monitor i should get the 2060, and if i wanna keep my 1080 monitor i should go for the 1660?
I was thinking of upgrading to a 1440p monitor but im not super sure right now, i think i would rather have a 1080p 144hz monitor, and as Wendingo says the 1660 should be best for that.
