Hi,

I recently had to RMA my motherboard and since I'm getting a reimbursement instead of a replacement I though about getting a different one instead of the same one, but I'm quite lost on the motherboard world.

Here are my PC components:
Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk (The one I had RMA)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHz
CPU Cooling: Corsair Hydro H75 Kit
3 Case Fans.
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 PC4-25600 16GB 2x8GB CL16 (2 sets)
GPU: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5
PSU: Corsair RM750 750W 80 Plus Gold Full Modular
SSD (OS W10): Samsung 850 Evo SSD Series 120GB SATA3
SSD 2 (Programs): Crucial MX500 SSD 500GB SATA
HDD (Data): Seagate Barracuda ST4000DM004 4000GB Serial ATA II
HDD (Data): Seagate Barracuda 3000GB

Other: 4 port USB PCIe slot. Valve Index Headset, a HOTAS, cabled gamepad, webcam, keyboard and mouse.

A few considerations/doubts:
I use a wired connection so I don't really care about wifi.
As you can see from the components list I do need a bunch of internal and posterior connections for drives, fans and various usb devices.
I remember that when I bought the Tomahawk there was some drama about compatibility with the new AMD CPUs and rushed BIOS versions. Is that still a thing?
I've seen different variants (MAX, Pro, Plus, gaming...) Does that do mean anything or are just buzzwords that add shiny "Gamer" lights?
What are the differences between the different available chipsets?
I don't expect it to last a decade but would be nice if it could be useful after replacing CPU and GPU for a few years.

Hello there!!
You can consider getting a B550 chipset Mobo and Tomahawk models of mobo are really good from MSI so you can consider that for your B550 else the B450 Tomahawk max should support it out of the box.
